Pure Battery Air Freight To Middle East: From Held To Release

Alice 2026-07-02 18:21:22

Aming, the boss of a new energy battery factory in Shenzhen Longhua, was stressed out by a shipment of 20 boxes of pure batteries to Dubai. The forwarder sent the goods, but there was no update for 6 days. Finally, they admitted that the UN38.3 report and MSDS documents for dangerous goods were incomplete, so the shipment was held at Dubai airport. They had to find another agent to fix the mess, which would take at least 10 more days. But the second batch had to be sent immediately and couldn't wait. Aming asked around and found us, DL.

I told Aming: "Pure batteries are Class 9 dangerous goods. Dubai customs requires not just basic papers, but also UN38.3 test, air transport condition identification, and the latest MSDS. The previous forwarder didn't even meet the compliance requirements." Aming felt relieved and arranged to send the goods to our warehouse. We repacked them with "anti-static bags + flame-retardant cotton + insulation boards" and put on UN3480 labels. After booking, the flight took off on time and landed at Dubai local time 11 am the next day.

The dangerous goods clearance area at Dubai airport is a real test of a forwarder's expertise. It's common for small forwarders' cargo to wait in long lines at the temporary declaration zone. DL ships 50 tons of goods to the Middle East every week. Because of the large volume and compliant declarations, customs offers a fast clearance lane for companies like DL. Many years of good records earned DL this access.

Four hours before the cargo landed, we had already uploaded 12 documents—updated MSDS, UN38.3 test report, dangerous goods filing, packaging inspection, etc.—to Dubai customs' "dangerous goods smart review system." The system marked "review passed" directly. Small forwarders often miss documents and get their applications returned for resubmission.

With complete files and proper packaging, DL rarely has issues during the manual review step. Customs officers checked the packaging integrity and labeling of two boxes against the system info, then signed off the release. Two hours later, we picked up the cargo to our bonded warehouse and arranged delivery to the customer's project site. When the customer signed the acceptance form, Aming gave us a thumbs up.
